Date Night Fail

6 Months, Week 4

Friday night was Tim and my first real night out [sorry Cowans, your baby shower didn’t count]. We had tickets to see ol’ Phish at Riverbend with our other parents friends. I was picked up directly from work and we headed to Pirates’ Cove down on Kellog for some drinks and food before the show.

The concert was great and always entertaining with fantastic people-watching. There are always children at Phish shows which is interesting. I wouldn’t be against it, but I’d definitely stay on the outer ring of the fans where most other children stay.

It was very fun, but Nora had woke up at 5:30 that morning so I was purely exhausted. Which was ironic because there were other passed out people around me, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t because of their 6-month old and 8 hours of work.

We left during the encore and got home around 11:30 - perfect! My Mom was gracious to spend the night since we knew we’d be home late.

However, Nora didn’t want to work with us - she woke up at 1am and after waiting it out and changing a diaper to no avail, I succumbed to a night feeding at 2am. Somehow this wasn’t enough so at 3am AND 4am my Mom held her until she fell asleep again both times. When Nora woke up for the day at 6:30am, my Mom had left and Zombie - er, Tim and I, got up.

Murphy’s Law, right? What can go wrong will go wrong. Especially if you and your husband try and go out for date night!

Cute and tiny 7oz!

Before we knew what the night held for us!

Perfect summer concert!

The Downs

6 Months, Week 3

It’s happened. Nora’s first cold : (
Nana reported that Nora had clear drippage from her nose on Tuesday, but no fever - maybe allergies or even a tooth?

But Wednesday morning proved it was a cold - snotty nose, watery eyes and sneezing. Plus a night of restless sleeping from Nora [which in turn meant a crappy night’s sleep for Mom & Dad].

We took her temperature - normal. And she was very smiley and in good spirits - so no meds, just using the aspirator to retrieve the snot!

I took her to the sitter this morning and gave the report; our sitter was totally fine with Nora having a cold.

I drove away and starting crying because there’s nothing you can do to take the crumminess away, but I just wanted to hold her so she was at least comfortable.

So we’ve set up the humidifier in her room for the night - I really hope the symptoms go away tonight. I think what’s most frustrating is that I was convinced that since Nora is still breast-feeding that she could avoid this, but I guess the milk can only protect her for so long.

The Ups

6 Months, Week 3

Last week Nora learned to mimic making raspberries with her mouth - super cute! She’s rolling all over the place and fairly determined to sit up on her own - we’re so close!

This past Saturday we met Nora’s new friend, Evelyn - she’s such a peanut and holding her, I honestly couldn’t remember Nora at that size! It feels like so long ago... It was fun reminiscing about the early days with Nora too and imagining William & Emma going through the same trials.

Sunday Grammy & Grampy Batty swung through on a quick visit - Nora enjoying sitting in Grampy’s lap and watching him make funny faces and sounds. Grammy brought back some of MY old toys from the 80s - classic Fisher Price!

Later that day my good college friends, Anita & Paul Z were in Ohio visiting family so we met up in Moraine at Chappy’s [great beers, average food] for a visit! Four adults and three children under the age of 4 - a very busy booth! It was awesome catching up and seeing the kiddos - Nora was great, I was so glad! She didn’t even fall asleep on the way home, and was all smiles.

Silly Grampy making noises.

Classic toys!

So fun meeting the Zomkowskis!

The Girl Gang

6 Months Week 2

Our good friends, the Godfrey/Morris’ had their little girl on June 7th - Evelyn Katherine Morris. 8lbs 7oz, 21 1/2" long and 5 days late.

She’s a member of 5 babies born within a year in our circle of friends!

Our great friends the Sheehans visited us Saturday - it was such a blast seeing our two girls together and imagining all the fun they’ll have as [forced] friends : D

Ava [9 months] and Nora [6 months]

Ava shows Nora how squealing is done!

Welcome Miss Evelyn!

6 Months Old!

I can’t believe it’s been half a year!

Work It

6 Weeks Week 2

The sixth month has shown big changes; loads of solids and a roly-poly baby! Her legs are beginning to bend up below her while on her belly - folks are sayin’ she’ll be on the move soon!

Foods have been going very well... at least the orange foods : ) Squash and sweet potatoes are winners. Peas and avocados - not so much. Next on deck is carrots, which I think will go fairly well.

I’ve been feeling the crunch at work lately with a 4-day week. It could be because it’s the end of the fiscal year for some clients so they’re throwing projects [$$] at us to use up. I think a week from today I’ll actually have to go in for a handful of meetings I can’t miss. Bummer. I knew I wouldn’t be able to manage every week, but still holding on to my one day at home for as long as I can. I want my office to be supportive of mothers and families, but some days I don’t always feel the love. Overall, though, I’m thankful for what I can make work!

Adventures in Baby Food

6 Months Week 1

Cereal has been going very well. Nora digs her brown rice cereal - we’ve quickly increased the amount she eats because she loves it so much.

Saturday we ventured into vegetables - first stop: peas. Verdict? Yucky. I’m going to try one more time today then we’re moving on to carrots. Also on deck will be sweet potatoes, squash, avocado, then we’ll move on to fruits!

I’m going to mostly try and cook most of the fruits and veggies, but I’m sure I’ll be buying a few jarred meals here and there - especially squash - that’s too much work for me, I can’t even cook it properly for Tim and I.

Side Sleeper

6 Months Week 1

She’s often a side sleeper. Not pictured - the thumb in her mouth : /
