Sleep Update -

20 Months, Week 4

Well Monday’s terrible night may be solved;

1. Sunday night was a full moon - I heard other stories of kids’ bad nights at work the next day

2. Nora has been napping SO long at the sitter’s house; Monday she slept from 12:30-4:30 when she was woken up! I’m having Alison wake Nora at 4pm now because I feel it maybe be affecting bedtime.

3. More teeth popping in?

Thankfully this round hasn’t lasted long. Monday night she didn’t call for us until 5am. And last night we slept the whole way through with zero peeps - whew!

That is all : )

Back At It

20 Months, Week 3

Sigh.

The past week of bedtimes have become bad again - lots of crying for “Mommy! Blankie!” “Daddy! Up!”

I’m not sure why Nora is regressing yet again. She’s manipulative enough before age 2 to say “Mommy Poo-Poo!” to get me in her room even though she has not, in fact, poo-pooed.

This suckiness peaked tonight when Tim and I were downstairs after only 5 minutes of her screaming that we heard an enormous THUMP! We dropped everything and raced upstairs to Nora walking, sobbing out of her room. I lost it and and started crying, clutching Nora to tell her she has to lay down, it’s bedtime.

It’s one thing when a toddler sneakily flips themselves out of the crib, but since Nora was overly upset and flipped herself out, I just can’t stop thinking about injuries. She’s way too young for a bed yet I think... but if she’s flipped herself out once, she knows she can do it again.

ARGH!

Girls’ Saturday

20 Months, Week 2

Unfortunately, Tim had to work today because of a Wal-Mart/Cascade emergency that reared its head on Friday. Major bummer, but Nora and I could spend some time together which was nice.

After some Sesame Street, we ate some breakfast and put ourselves together and made our way to the library - ours is just down the street and has a great kids/toddler section with a toy kitchen and puppets and blocks for the kids to play with.

Then Nora and I made our way to downtown Milford to the park and Nora loved going down the small slide several times.

We made some Annie’s mac-n-cheese for lunch which was a rather mess:

Please note the pasta shell stuck in her hair. Sweet.

Later today we headed to our friend’s the Fearings along with some other of my college friends and grilled out and caught up as much as we could - since chasing after Nora takes two grown-ups. It was so fun to see our friends and Nora enjoyed seeing baby Adrian and friend Alice Heyl who starts kindergarten on Wednesday!

The Mickey Mouse Game

20 Months, Week 2

This game is really just one thing; dropping Disney characters through a hole in the IKEA stool. Then tipping the stool over and sitting in it.

Nora the Knucklehead

20 Months, Week 2

Still laughing over Monday’s morning greeting to Tim from Nora; “Heeyyy Tim!” The goofiness continued to last night when Nora was paging through one of my magazines and landed on this Dolce & Gabbana ad for perfume and said “Mommy, Daddy.” Helll yeeeeahhh! I’m glad Nora considers Tim and I of such prestige : D

Last night Nora found her PJs from Nana that came from California and wanted to wear the pants. However the top was short-sleeves and we’re sleeping with cool weather this week so I needed to add the long sleeves and socks so she wouldn’t be too cold. Nora calls these her “Super Nora” pants - !!

This past week had a lot of “trying Mommy’s stuff on” which included a new Bengals tee and fall running shoes:

First Week - New Sitter

20 Months, Week 2

Dropping Nora off on Monday was pretty uneventful, which is good. She was a little shy, a touch clingy, but was totally fine when I left. I felt a little lump in my throat, but it never escaped.

Nora had a great first week, enjoys the sitter and her kids. I went to pick up Nora Friday and she’d slept approximately 3.5 hrs - Whhhaaaat?

Girlfriend takes epic naps for everyone except Mommy & Daddy : )

Relaxing Weekend

20 Months, Week 1

After being gone from Nora almost all of last weekend, it was great to have zero plans this weekend.

I actually was able to slip out of work before 4:30 on Friday and went to Old Navy for some clearance action - bad [awesome?] news. I ended up spending more than I wanted AND opened a credit card for the extra savings. My bill was the same amount of money I saved. Damn you, Old Navy. But I’ll tell you what - clothes shopping alone? Fantastic.

I needed a few drinks and chips, so since I was by Kenwood, I stopped in Trader Joes for the first time [did you read that, Sue? First. Time.] It was so much smaller and non-branded than I expected inside - felt very “local market” inside. Not a lot of selection, but what I found was cheap and good. Maybe other Fridays I leave early I can do the same!

Tim and Nora weren’t home from Nana’s until close to 7:30 so I even cleaned the bathrooms waiting on them! Nora had a great day at Nana’s:

My hippie chick!

Saturday after my morning run, we decided to hit the Sharonville pool - despite the overcast morning, it cleared and it was a beautiful afternoon. William & Evelyn were able to join us which was fun! Nora enjoyed the water much more this visit and even dipped her head repeatedly in the fountains and went down the slide with Daddy multiple times.

The only time Mommy went down the slide!

Krons at the pool!

Today was also nice and quiet. Just some errands and yard work and playing with Nora as she becomes cheekier. She’s very big into Sesame Street [I’m sure in 2 weeks she’ll be dis-interested]. Tim and I both had the “Wubba Wubba” song stuck in our head after she went to bed and listened to “C is for Cookie” more than we could stand.

Nora also repeatedly said “Hey Tim!” After hearing me call for Tim. Guess I can only call him “Daddy” in the house - !

Good Times

Month 20, Week 1

Two weekends ago we had a great Sunday dinner with our friends the Cook-Whites; we hadn’t seen them in about 3 months or so and Tabitha is almost 1 year old now!

They have such a great backyard and Nora had fun with the Daddies and Gus playing air-rockets! We had pizza and a great time catching up.

Who’s that big girl!

The following weekend Tim and I had our annual “Adult Day” down at our friend’s lakehouse in Kentucky. No responsibility for 24 hours [again!]. It was probably too much fun [I was a little dusty the next day] but for a day a year, it’s worth it to catch up with friends and hang loose!

Yup. That’s me in Nora’s boat.

That’s me trying to get OUT of Nora’s boat.

We also inherited our other friend’s lakehouse water table! Which means all the other kids are that much older that they’ve passed it down to us - which is a big win for Nora!

Moving On...

20 Months, Week 1

Today was our last day with Carrie - we made her cookies and a card with Nora’s photo inside.

I arrived early so “Ju-Ju” [baby Jude] was still there, both Carrie’s sons and her fiancee. So it was a full house and busy, so I didn’t have to dwell on being bummed about Nora leaving her new comfortable place.

Carrie has asked to be our backup sitter which is great - the Grandmas can’t be available at every moment, so it’s nice to know we have options.

We took our time and Nora said goodbye to everyone including the 2 dogs. Carrie told Nora she loved her and Nora said she loved Carrie back - it was very sweet.

So we left without any tears or drama from anyone : )

Monday we start with the new sitter who is even closer. I feel really good about her and Nora building a friendship with their son who is 2. I’m already starting to think about maybe our kids will go to pre-school or kindergarten together which could help Tim & I as working parents for childcare after/before school [blergh].

Found A New Sitter...

19 Months, Week 4

Well, after a feverish response to our sitter’s news about becoming a yoga instructor, we went quickly onto Care.com to find a new caregiver. Neither of us wanted to waste any time and get Nora acclimated to her third caregiver in less than two years. Bah.

I like Care.com a lot - I had at least 25 applicants, however about 5 were probable based on location alone. We had two additional possibilities who were the same price as our second interview, but further away. Everyone is the same price - which is a bummer because our past two sitters have been extremely reasonable. BUT she’s less than 2 miles away with a boy Nora’s age and they just feel comfortable. Plus she’s a Bearcat, man!

We feel very good and have found a few ways to adjust the budget for this, plus our current sitter said she can still act as backup when we need her.

So we’re set for now... I’m already trying to figure out how Pre-School and Kindergarten are supposed to work with 2 working parents! : P
